Recycling HistoryWhile metals, glass and paper have been recycled since recorded history, the recycling and reuse programs implemented during WWII are the beginnings of the present day recycling movement in the U.S. Since the 1940’s people have understood the value of reusing and recycling items that have been land filled in the past. The Earth Day activities in the 1970’s rekindled the interest in recycling culminating in the nation wide landfill legislation in the 1980’s that set up stringent monitoring of landfills and set goals on diverting recyclable materials from the general trash.
Recycling is the process of transforming reusable materials into products rather than land filling these materials. This helps conserve landfill space, natural resources, reduces energy usage and prevents pollution.
As a community, Hurstbourne Acres has made a commitment to recycle. So please let’s all try to be a little greener. If you need a recycle bin please contact Rumpke customer service (502)568-3800 or call your Sanitation Commissioner, Sally Price at (502) 491-5627.
